Following tooth loss, bone resorption can compromise the placement of conventional intraosseous implants.
This is the case for this lower jaw, which has lost all of its teeth.
Subperiosteal implants are placed on the bone surface while respecting vital anatomical structures, in this case the inferior alveolar nerve.
Subperiosteal implants are custom-made from titanium. They therefore adapt perfectly to the patient’s bone anatomy and are fixed using titanium screws.
In this case, the chin region presents sufficient bone volume to receive two conventional cylindrical implants.
A provisional fixed bridge can be screwed in place immediately at the end of surgery, connecting the two posterior subperiosteal implants and the two anterior cylindrical implants.
Within a few months, their biocompatible surface allows bone to grow over them, further increasing their stability.
This patient was able to regain fixed teeth in a single procedure, without bone grafting, thanks to subperiosteal implants.
