RAMSHA MARIAM PAYYAPPILLY Learns Syriac Chant Styles from Fr. Joseph Palackal, CMI.
Awūn d’waśmayyā (Our Father in heaven) (In syriac).
Notes:
Family is the right setting for the transmission of a tradition from one generation to the other. There, parents have the last word on how to form their children or what they should learn. The Syro Malabar hierarchy is not on the same page regarding the preservation of the Syriac elements in the liturgy. Ironically, the "Syro" in the title of their Church stands for the use of Syriac language in liturgy. It is in this context we see the value of the Payyappilly family at Thevara, Kochi, in encouraging their two daughters, Ramsha Mariam Payyappilly and Rahel Anna Payyappilly and the little master
Isahaq Ninan Payyappilly, learn the original version of the Lord's Prayer and other Syriac chants in Syriac/Aramaic. This video shows the interactive teaching session at the Payyappilly home on 26 August 2025. In the next videos, we shall see the two sisters joined by their little brother, reciting the Syriac version. We hope these videos will be an inspiration to other parents to reset their priorities and incorporate the Syriac version of the Lord's Prayer into the daily family prayer.
