“Time Won't Let Me" is a garage rock song that was recorded by the Outsiders, from Cleveland, Ohio, which became a major hit in the United States, reaching #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and the 42nd biggest American hit of 1966.

Lead vocals were provided by Sonny Geraci, who also sang lead on the 1972 hit, "Precious and Few" by his later band, Climax.

The Outsiders promoted their hit single with almost a year of nationwide touring, as "Time Won't Let Me" stayed on the national charts for 15 weeks.

A heated argument on the name of the band between guitarist Tom King and his uncle/managed ended when his uncle said, “You have always been an outsider to the family, Tom.”—

So, it was mostly to spite his uncle when they renamed the band “The Outsiders”.

Tom King said, “It was due to (Mert Madsen’s) driving bass line that the song became a big hit.”

Madsen was instrumental in the horn arrangement for the horns overdubbing as well.

The band first toured with Paul Revere and the Raiders and then with Chad and Jeremy, and later were part of a six-week tour of one-night stands headed by Gene Pitney.

The sound they first created, combining Mersey Rock & Motown, can be felt in the later hits of the Buckinghams and Chicago.

The Smithereens covered "Time Won't Let Me" on the soundtrack for the 1994 film Timecop.
