Описание: What women CAN and CANNOT do in Saudia Arabia in 2025, and I can’t believe saying “what women cannot do” is still a thing but, I’m sure we all have seen that a lot lately.

Anyway, I finally traveled solo to Saudi Arabia after years of waiting for their strict rules to lighten up a bit, especially for women. And it’s true, they have, but they still have a long way to go for Saudi women.

For me as an American non-Muslim tourist, I honestly had no problems at all, aside maybe from wishing I had a glass of wine, but the privilege was real as I saw many women clearly without the same freedoms as me.

FOR FOREIGN FEMALE VISITORS:
An invitation is NOT required
A male guardian/escort is not required
You are free to travel solo anywhere besides Mecca (you can’t go at all) and certain holy sites
You CAN drive
It felt normal to dine alone and take taxis alone
You do NOT have to wear a hijab (head covering) or abaya (robe), but you do have to dress super modestly
You DO have to wear a hijab in a mosque
You cannot drink alcohol. No one can (besides in a new foreign political area)
You cannot wear swimsuits at public beaches (but you can at tourist hotels and specific beaches)
No PDA or even hugging men and vice versa

And as for the Saudi women, they have some of the above, the most shocking I wrote about on the blog post (latest post on mylifesamovie.com), but they still don’t have total freedom from oppression. Most still require male permission to do basic life things, and even things like DIVORCE! Saudi women also cannot get a license or travel abroad alone without male permission before 21 years old. Boooooo.
