I am really digging this case for it's extra bit of protection for local gigging y'all. Ahead’s PDX CORE is based on their Traditional DX Core Design consisting of 2 layers of high-impact foam, Ahead Armor’s Signature water resistant 600 Denier Polyester Exterior, and of course Ahead’s trademark “oh sooo wooly” Sherpa fleece lining. The difference with a PDX CORE snare case, is that Ahead puts a .2” thick Inner Hard Core of ABS between the layers of high impact foam. This adds the stiffness of a hard case. And I’ll be honest this is a pretty stiff case, that when zipped up feels pretty stout.

I actually feel very confident with one of my nicer, and or heavier snares being safe in this case while being carried around town, being stuffed in an airplane’s OH compartment, or being packed super tight in my SUV. Another cool thing about the PDX Core design is it goes hand in hand with Ahead’s Classic TruForm Engineering, and teardrop design which corresponds to the true shape of the drum plus its mounting hardware. Together these elements create the perfect safe space FOR your strainer.
This case was designed in conjunction with an Ahead Artist who gigs regularly on Broadway in Nashville, TN, and who wanted an Ahead case with an extra level of protection for the heaviest of his snares without the clunkiness of ill fitting hard cases. So far so good Ahead!
