The Sacramento City Unified School District is preparing to send hundreds of preliminary layoff notices as leaders try to close a projected $200 million budget deficit next school year. At a recent board meeting, trustees voted to close about 400 additional positions, bringing the potential total to roughly 800 positions eliminated across the district. Not all of those closures will result in layoffs, but hundreds of employees could lose their jobs if the district cannot reduce costs.
