African leaders under the C5 platform are calling for urgent political dialogue in South Sudan warning that elections alone cannot bring about lasting peace.
At a meeting Chaired by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Uganda was represented by Vice President Jessica Alupo at the Julius Nyerere Peace and Security Center held on the sidelines of the African Union Summit.
Ramaphosa emphasized that while South Sudan is preparing for elections in 2026, without security, inclusivity and full implementation of the revitalized peace agreement, the polls risk deepening divisions.
