Trauma bonding is a psychological phenomenon where a person forms a strong emotional attachment to their abuser. This bond develops through cycles of abuse and intermittent positive reinforcement, making it difficult for the victim to leave the relationship. Despite the pain and suffering involved, the victim may feel deeply connected to the abuser, often rationalizing or minimizing the abusive behavior due to the intense emotional highs and lows they experience. This bond can be so powerful that it keeps the victim trapped in the toxic relationship, even when they recognize the harm it's causing them.
