Count Basie arranger Ernie Wilkins´ wrote this orchestral suite in collaboration with Manny Albam. It was originally released on Columbia Records in 1956 on an album entitled "The Drum Suite".
Ernie Wilkins´ Copenhagen-based "Almost Big Band" picked up the idea of rediscovering this music under the leadership of trumpeter Benny Rosenfeld and myself.
The music was transcribed and re-arranged for the smaller "Almost Big Band"-format by Vincent Nilsson and Mårten Lundgren.
