Our route starts off from Eastern Freeway with a view of the South Mumbai. We covered the oldest historic churches along a pit stop at the Asiatic Society Mumbai Library, Gateway of India, Taj Mahal Palace Hotel and famous Marine Drive of Mumbai.
Churches Visited:
Cathedral of the Holy Name - Is a Roman Catholic cathedral in the Indian city of Mumbai. Its a masterpiece, and the “Holy Name Cathedral” is simply one of the unique chapters that speak of God’s redemptive work in this world. Completed in 1905, the glory of the 107-year old Cathedral is still mostly intact. The general style is Gothic and approximates to what is known as 'Early Decorated' in English Architecture.
St. Thomas Cathedral - Church of the Diocese of Mumbai of the Church of North India named in honor of Saint Thomas the Apostle. It was completed in 1718, is the first Anglican church in Mumbai (then called Bombay). The 300-year-old church is controlled by the Cathedral and John Connon School. The foundation stone of the church was first laid in 1676, although the church was only finally consecrated for divine service 1718. The name of nearby Churchgate station has reference to this church. One of the gates in the Fort which the East India Company had built to protect their settlement was the entrance to the St. Thomas Church.
