As Galuszka explains:
“The Light That Hid the Burn explores the quiet spaces after personal loss. It’s about allowing yourself to feel, to acknowledge the pain, and to recognise the fragments of memory and emotion that shape who we are. That tension between light and exposure sits at the heart of Fractures.”
With the release of The Light That Hid the Burn and the ongoing rollout of Fractures through June 2026, Joe Galuszka further establishes himself as a compelling voice in contemporary ambient classical music — one rooted in emotional integrity, human experience, and the quiet power of restraint.
Bristol-based composer, conductor, and instrumentalist Joe Galuszka presents The Light That Hid the Burn, the third single from his debut EP Fractures, a track that sits at the emotional heart of the record. Recorded at St George's Bristol and performed by Bristol Ensemble — the only professional orchestra in Bristol — the track features some of the UK’s finest string players, musicians who regularly perform on leading recording sessions for the BBC, Aardman Animations, and major feature films.
Mixed by Alex Garden (Tarren) and mastered by Nick Cooke (Ramin Djawadi, Kate Rusby, Hans Zimmer), The Light That Hid the Burn explores the aftermath of profound personal rupture — when a trusted relationship collapses, when someone who once felt like home becomes a source of deep emotional pain, and when life quietly but irrevocably shifts. The track reflects those moments when light brings clarity and warmth, yet simultaneously exposes wounds we were not ready to confront. The “burn” is not erased but slowly revealed, acknowledged, and held.
Rather than offering resolution, the music creates space to feel. It affirms that heartbreak and suffering are not failures but deeply human experiences. The composition moves with restraint and vulnerability, allowing listeners to sit with their emotions and recognize fragments of their own stories within it.
Galuszka’s musical journey began in Buckinghamshire, where he taught himself piano before studying trumpet, horn, and tuba. He holds a BMus from Canterbury Christ Church University and an MA in Composition for Film and Television from the University of Bristol. Over the years, he has composed for orchestras and brass bands, scored more than fifteen films and documentaries, and won Gold at the London Independent Film Awards for his debut wildlife documentary soundtrack Firekeepers of Kakadu. He was also nominated for Best Original Score in a Short at the International Sound and Film Music Festival for A Sin de Fella Story.
Dedicated to his late mother, late grandparents, and the city of Bristol — now his home — Fractures is conceived as more than a record. It forms part of a wider outreach, educational, and wellbeing-focused project, offering music as a space for reflection, emotional honesty, and resilience.
