Cyclone Mandous, which emerged from the Bay of Bengal, made landfall in Mamallapuram, 30 kms from Chennai, resulting in heavy rains and gale force winds in parts of coastal Tamil Nadu. Mandous, is an Arabic word meaning ‘treasure box’.
