... I'm aware that today these marvelous pieces are sometimes surrounded with a somewhat negative perspective. But that is not the fault of Clementi... who in his time was one of the pillars of piano playing and music in general. And not without reason. Only in this set of 6 relatively short sonatas (he wrote two more bundles like this), he put his stamp strongly on the output he delivered: perfect control of form, technique and composition.
For piano or keyboard teachers, these works are a goldmine. All kinds of techniques are waved in the music that is designed to make you smile. Really, Clementi, like much of Mozart's music just makes you feel happy.

On the instrument: clementi in this time was, as almost all his colleagues, rapidly moving to a pianoforte performer only. But their technique still was very 18th century, which should not surprise us: by the time Clementi composed this set, he was almost 50 years old, so his hand must have been formed! On a good clavichord however, an instrument still very close to the early pianofortes, this music works perfectly. And playing them on my instrument gave me a lot of pleasure. Hope that shows in the recording!
