DDA: 20 Things That I Wish I Knew When I Started Playing Dungeon Defenders Awakened
1 Always run with a full hero deck maximize XP gain, XP is duplicated across all heroes in your deck – you can hot swap between heroes during the build phase with f1 through f4. H and F5 will bring up your hero deck allowing you to swap them out with other heroes you’ve created. You can swap heroes in and out of your hero deck in the build phase also, you’re never stuck with your current deck when entering a stage, just be mindful of the build timer if you’re playing on the higher difficulties.
2 You can rename and customize your heros by selecting to swap in your hero deck. Customizing their appearance can help prevent you from accidentally building on or entering combat with the wrong hero. You can use different skins you have or specific color schemes to denote a certain group of characters. For example, I use the shadow skins on my builders. This helps me never mistakenly start a wave on a my waller squire when I meant to be on my DPS squire.
3 Hero level up points aren’t permanent once allocated and can be reallocated at any time, even mid match. Use this to your advantage to tweek your stats on the fly if you ever need a bit more range or want to change things up.
4 Upgrades on armor are permanent however, so spend your gold wisely. Don’t sweat it too much if you mess up on some armor though, as you’ll be swapping pieces out for upgrades pretty often early on anyway.
5 Your defenses do 33% more damage if you’re on the hero who built them. This is worthwhile early on but a dps character will more than make up the difference in nightmare and beyond.
6 If enemys get stuck or you die in a NMHC survival and only spiders are left, a timer is active and they will despawn eventually. You can get stuck ogres moving again by placing a tower near them.
7 Defenses can be sold for a full refund during the build phase so don’t worry about wasting mana if you need to move or change something.
8 Movement speed hard caps at 100 agility, so any agility over 100 has no additional benefit. Don’t bother leveling it, you’ll get plenty from your gear.
9 Keep your lvl 70 and 78 armor sets that are leveled up after you upgrade to the next level cap of armor. They may be of use on other characters that you make later on, such as a DPS squire or tower Squire.
10 Hero level softcaps at 70, 78, 83, 90. Expect leveling up to get slower at each of these points.
11 A secret room unlocks after you beat the campaign and it’s behind the middle door opposite the trophy section in your tavern. I’ll let you see for yourself what’s inside.
12 XP progress into your current level is shown numerically under general for your stats
13 All towers that shoot get a slight range bonus from upgrading them but the magic missile tower has double the range at max upgrade level.
14 The damage reduction cap from armor is 90% but you’ll need 164% to get to that 90% in NM and Mass due to your stats being nerfed in those modes.
15 Hardcore mode = better gear and xp but you don’t respawn during the wave if you die.
16 Mix mode = survival with better gear but waves are harder
17 Use your loot filters to simplify looting at the end of each wave – I usually exclude a rarity tier as soon as I start getting pieces from the tier above it
18 If you’re struggling early on in a new difficulty, stop at the ancient mines and run some hardcore survival to gear up.
19 All armor can roll any stat but each armor type has a single stat that’s guaranteed to appear on it.
Ancient - Always rolls with Skill – can be good for boost monk
Guard - Always rolls with Vitality – can be good for DPS characters
Militia - Always rolls with Attack – can be good for huntress/squire DPS
Primitive - Always rolls with Agility – not that good because agility caps so low
Arcanist - Not in the game, note in the description after it drops
Miner - Always rolls with Power – can be good for builders
20 Here’s a short list of hotkeys that you might not know about:
Shift Key Toggles Tower range display
Tab key toggles the overlay map
Hold E to get rid of the tool tip when placing towers
Hold control and scroll the mouse wheel to rotate towers without moving your character or resize traps and auras
Press T for an overhead view when placing towers
Press m to drop 5 mana and hold m to drop all of your mana
Alt+h toggles the UI
Hold the mmb to ping the map
