"O Regadinho" is a popular dance that became widespread in the 19th century, and is still danced today, all over the north of Portugal and, also, in Beira Litoral. Although in the Algarve it's also danced, but in the form of a quadrille. Therefore, it is an hybrid dance with instrumental accompaniment, or with just an acoustic guitar. Overall, it can be characterized as a «recreative popular dance» that, unlike folk dances, are practised by the people who invented them for mere amusement or simple pastime, without any ritualistic, religious or civic significance.

The lyrics highlight the presence of water and the act of watering as a symbolic element to convey the love message. Water is mentioned repeatedly throughout the song, suggesting the idea of fluidity and constant movement. In "regadinho", the participants form a circle and dance in a lively way, following a sequence of specific steps and movements.

Se bem que no Algarve também se baila, mas em forma de quadrilha. Trata-se, portanto, de uma dança híbrida com acompanhamento instrumental, apenas com viola ou então ao som da guitarra. De modo geral, caracteriza-se de uma «dança popular recreativa» que, ao contrário das folclóricas, são praticadas pelo povo que as inventou para mera diversão ou simples passatempo, sem qualquer significado ritualista, mágico ou cívico.

A letra destaca a presença da água e do ato de regar como um elemento simbólico para transmitir a mensagem de amor. A água é mencionada repetidamente ao longo da música, sugerindo a ideia de fluidez e de movimento constante.
