At least two killed, Earthquake with preliminary magnitude of 6.5 rattles southern, central Mexic

Описание: A strong 6.5-magnitude earthquake struck southern and central Mexico on January 2, 2026, with its epicentre near San Marcos in Guerrero state, close to the Pacific coast and Acapulco, interrupting President Claudia Sheinbaum’s first press briefing of the year as seismic alarms sounded. The quake triggered evacuations and widespread alarm in Mexico City and other areas, caused landslides on highways and structural damage such as to a hospital in Chilpancingo, and left at least two people dead, one from a collapsing home near the epicentre and another in Mexico City during evacuation. Over 500 aftershocks have been reported as authorities continue damage assessment and emergency response.
