This year saw the 40th Anniversary of the killing of Declan Flynn in Fairview Park.
The tragic event was the catalyst for the launch of the first Dublin LGBTQ+ Pride march - it began with a protest, it is still a protest, but now also includes a celebration of identity and culture.
A commemoration and celebration of Declan’s life was recently organised by Dublin LGBTQ+ Pride in conjunction was members of Declan’s family. This week LGBTQ+life will share with listeners our exclusive report from that event. The speakers here include Paul Flynn (Declan’s brother), Phillippa Ryder (Chair, Dublin LGBTQ+ Pride), Val Hourigan (Dublin Lesbian Line), Oisín O’Reilly (Outhouse), Aifric Ní Chríodáin (ShoutOut), Colette O’Regan (LGBT_Ireland) and Brian Sheehan (LGBTQ+ activist).
The speakers were linked by Jed Dowling (Dublin LGBTQ+ Pride) who acted as MC for the day.
LGBTQ+life is broadcast at 2pm on Fridays on 103.2 DublinCity-FM and at 4pm Saturdays on our fellow community station 92.5 Phoenix-FM
