Imam Abu ‘Abdillah al-Halimi (338-403), Allah have mercy on him, said: “A Muslim should not…in any circumstance congratulate a non-Muslim on his Easter, Nowruz, Mehregan (or any other non-Muslim religious festival), nor follow them in showing respect to the occasions that they show respect to.” (al-Minhaj fi Shu‘ab al-Iman, 3:349)
Numerous other scholars have also cautioned against Muslims participating in non-Muslim religious festivals and the act of congratulating non-Muslims on such occasions.
