👋 Hey everybody, Sifu Keith here! In today’s video from our Wing Chun & Fight Training Workshops, we’re diving into a lesser-known but extremely powerful tool for fighters — eye training. This training is designed to sharpen your visual acuity, enhance your peripheral awareness, and dramatically improve your reaction time in combat situations 🧠⚡

🧠 Why Train Your Eyes?
Your eyes are controlled by six small but powerful muscles that control movement up, down, side-to-side, and rotation for depth tracking (proximal vs distal). Like any muscle, these need regular training to function at peak performance.
➡️ This training won’t replace glasses or fix vision conditions — but it WILL enhance your ability to track motion, stay alert in sparring, and maintain visual control under stress.
🔄 Training Format
We’ll go through 3 progressive drills:
Warm-Up Drills – foundational eye movements to prepare your vision
Proximal Drills – simulate punch tracking at close range
Peripheral Drills – expand your side vision and spatial awareness
🔥 Part 1: Warm-Up Eye Drills (20 reps each)
🖐️ Extend your arm with finger/thumb out (represents your Wing Chun elbow structure)
🔄 Circle Drill: Finger moves in circles, eyes follow without lag
⬆️⬇️ Up & Down Drill: Smooth vertical tracking
⬅️➡️ Side to Side Drill: Lateral focus
🔀 Diagonal Drill: Crucial for crossing angles — work both sides (e.g. lower left to upper right)
💡 Tip: Keep your eyes on your finger — don't let either outrun the other. Smoothness and control are key.
🥊 Part 2: Proximal Drills (Simulating Punches)
These mimic real fight dynamics: jabs, crosses, and hooks — all from arm’s length.
👊 Jab Drill: Arm fully out, bring finger to nose and back, repeat (20x)
🔄 Cross Drill: Eyes rotate 45°, track finger straight inward from side (20x per side)
🌀 Hook Drill: Finger starts at nose and arcs around to temple (20x per side)
✅ These train your depth perception and tracking speed at punching distance.
👁️🗨️ Part 3: Peripheral Vision Drills
Expand your awareness outside your central focus.
🧭 Clock Training Method: Imagine your vision like a clock. Hold your thumb in the following positions for 20 seconds each, keeping your head still:
3 o’clock ➡️ right
9 o’clock ⬅️ left
2 o’clock ↗️ high right
4 o’clock ↘️ low right
10 o’clock ↖️ high left
6 o’clock ⬇️ straight down
12 o’clock ⬆️ straight up
🧠 Your goal: To stretch the eye muscles, test your field of vision, and sharpen edge awareness for fast strikes from blind spots.
📌 Final Thoughts from Sifu Keith:
You wouldn’t skip training your legs or arms — so don’t neglect your eyes
Eye training improves reaction time, spatial judgment, and reflex accuracy
Break it up into 3 sets, or do one series daily — consistency beats intensity
Great for fighters, martial artists, and even everyday mental sharpness
