Your abs are like a chocolate bar 🍫—the way they’re divided depends on your DNA!
Your “6-pack” muscle, the rectus abdominis, is a long, vertical muscle running from your ribs to your pelvis. It is divided by tendon lines called tendinous intersections. Most people have three of these lines above the belly button, creating a 6-pack when they get lean. But an 8-pack? That needs a fourth line below the belly button—only 20% of people have this!
In a 6-pack, three lines divide the muscle into four segments per side. But the lowest segment (near the pubic area) hides under fat and ligaments. Even at 10–12% body fat, it stays hidden. That’s why only six segments are visible.
In an 8-pack, lucky people have four lines, making five segments per side. The last one still hides, but when body fat drops to ≤10%, all eight abs are visible!
Can workouts create more lines? NOPE! These lines are genetic—just like height! Training defines what’s there, but it won’t add extra lines!
