In this video EDEM software is coupled with MSC Adams to compare two taper bucket designs. This coupled simulation enables VR Steel to compare the mass inside the bucket vs. time and the force required to drag the bucket. Normalizing this data, VR Steel can optimize a bucket to provide the best filling characteristics whilst minimizing drag force.
EDEM simulates the behavior of bulk materials such as coal, soil, ores, and grains and provides a realistic and high-fidelity representation of the loads and the forces acting on equipment.
Combining EDEM with Adams allows engineers to introduce realistic bulk material behaviors to their multi-body dynamics simulations, and offers engineers unrivalled insight into how material loads are transferred throughout a mechanical system.
