Join me in bringing this classic early-2000s board back to life: the *MSI K7T266 Pro Ver 1.0* (MS-6380) with VIA KT266 chipset! This Socket A (462) ATX motherboard from around 2001 was a solid performer for AMD Athlon (Thunderbird/Palomino), Duron, and even early Athlon XP setups – supporting DDR SDRAM (up to 3GB in theory), AGP 4x, multiple PCI/ISA slots, and features like onboard Promise RAID (0/1).
In this video, I perform a full *power-on test* (checking POST, stability with a period-correct CPU like Athlon XP or Thunderbird, voltages via multimeter if shown, boot behavior) and a thorough *CMOS battery test* – measuring the CR2032 voltage (should be ~3.0-3.3V), checking for time/date loss, BIOS reset issues, or dead battery symptoms common on 20+ year old boards. If it's low/dead, I show replacement tips and clearing CMOS via jumper.
Why test these? Many K7T266 Pro boards (especially Ver 1.0) suffer from aged batteries causing boot loops, lost settings, or no POST after power loss – plus the KT266 era had quirks like USB dropouts at high FSB. Great for retro Win98/XP builds, Quake III/Age of Empires machines, or just preserving Socket A history!
If you're restoring a Socket A rig, fighting CMOS issues on VIA KT266 boards, or hunting rare MSI hardware, like and subscribe for more vintage motherboard tests, capacitor recaps, and retro PC hauls!
