What Is EMDR?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy that helps your brain process difficult or overwhelming experiences so they no longer feel as intense, distressing, or present-day.
When something traumatic happens, the memory can become frozen—showing up later as anxiety, panic, shame, negative beliefs, or emotional reactions that feel much bigger than the situation in front of you.
How EMDR Works:
EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (left-to-right eye movements, tapping, or sounds) while you briefly bring a memory to mind.
This mirrors what happens naturally during REM sleep, when both brain hemispheres are active and processing experiences from the day. During sleep, memories are integrated, stored, and emotionally digested in a way that feels less overwhelming.
In EMDR, this same process happens while you're awake, supported, and in control.
The brain does what it's naturally designed to do: heal.
What Clients Notice During EMDR:
We don't just talk about what happened - we notice how the body feels and where trauma is being held. We work with body and mind together.
As the brain reprocesses the memory:

✓ The memory feels more distant or neutral
✓ It becomes something that happened, not something still happening
