The committee's review focused on locations allowing assisted dying for the terminally ill, including parts of the US, Australia, Switzerland, and New Zealand. The cross-party group of MPs did not make a decision on changing the law in England but aimed to contribute to the ongoing debate.
Despite concerns that a legal shift might lead to poorer end-of-life support, the committee's report suggests the opposite, indicating increased investment in palliative care in countries that have adopted assisted dying.
Dame Esther, who is dealing with stage four cancer, highlights that the new report alleviates fears of harming palliative care through the introduction of assisted dying.
