I honestly wasn’t sure this piece would work…
In this video, I take a gnarly, bumpy Manzanita root burl that looks more like firewood than fine art—and turn it into a stunning showpiece I call the “Fire & Ice Vase.”
First, I rough-turn the wild burl to find the form hidden inside. Then I place it into a custom 3D-printed mold and pour in ice blue epoxy resin, locking that chaotic natural shape into something completely unique. After the resin cures, it goes back on the lathe for the final turning, sanding, and polishing—and the transformation is incredible.
This is one of those projects where it looks rough, uneven, and almost impossible at the start… but the final result is something else entirely.
