The retrosynthesis of octadeuterated cannabidiol (cannabidiol-d8), an isotopologue that may be useful in the research of the pharmacology and metabolism of this drug, is presented.
The retrosynthesis identifies deuterated acetone and deuterated methyl bromide as sources of deuterium. It also considers a nonadeuterated terpene diol as a key intermediate for reacting with olivetol in a Friedel-Crafts alkylation.
