Forgive the filming/sound quality, I need to get a proper tripod and mic.
This video describes how to safely open your Shield portable device and swap the rubber membranes under the D-pad and A/B/X/Y face buttons. This should get rid of the annoying clicking and stickyness of the Shield portable's D-pad.
Additionally, it also helps the D-pad to not float around so much. Most if not all retail Shield portable devices have some sort of D-pad clicking.
You can also use other membranes from other controllers if they fit onto the logic board.
