and our tribute to Felix Baumgartner. I was lucky enough to have met this wonderful man last year; he made the time to give a special introduction for my Friday Night Aviation Shows.
Felix Baumgartner was an Austrian skydiver, BASE jumper, and extreme sports pioneer best known for his 2012 Red Bull Stratos jump, where he became the first human to break the sound barrier in freefall.

• Died: 17 July 2025, Porto Sant’Elpidio, Italy
• Nicknames: “Fearless Felix,” “B.A.S.E. 502”
• Known for:
• BASE jumping
• Extreme stunts

His most iconic achievement:
• Jumped from a helium balloon in the stratosphere at ~39 km (24 miles) altitude
• Reached 1,357.64 km/h (843.6 mph) — Mach 1.25 — breaking the sound barrier with his body
• Set world records for:
• Highest freefall
• Fastest freefall
• First supersonic skydive without vehicle propulsion
• Landed safely in New Mexico, USA
This event was watched live by millions and became one of the most iconic moments in modern extreme sports.
