Описание: Master Sergeant Jerry Michael Shriver was one of the most respected and mysterious soldiers of the Vietnam War. Born on 4 September 1941 in DeFuniak Springs, Florida, he later grew up in Minnesota in a disciplined household shaped by military values. After finishing high school, Shriver enlisted in the United States Army in 1962 and quickly proved himself as a quiet but highly capable soldier. His calm personality, strong physical ability, and sharp mind helped him earn a place in the U.S. Army Special Forces, the elite Green Berets trained for unconventional warfare.

After completing advanced training at Fort Bragg, Shriver joined the 5th Special Forces Group and deployed to Vietnam as the war intensified. He later became part of MACV-SOG, a highly secretive U.S. special operations unit responsible for deep reconnaissance and sabotage missions behind enemy lines in Laos, Cambodia, and North Vietnam. These missions targeted supply routes along the Ho Chi Minh Trail and required small teams to operate for days in hostile territory without support. Shriver quickly gained a reputation for calm leadership and exceptional skill in jungle warfare.

During his service, Shriver led numerous high-risk reconnaissance missions and became known among fellow soldiers for his aggressive tactics and fearlessness under fire. His actions earned him several decorations, including the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart. Despite his growing reputation, he avoided attention and remained focused on his work in the field.

On 24 April 1969, Shriver led a reconnaissance team on a classified mission deep inside Cambodia near the Ho Chi Minh Trail. The team encountered heavy enemy resistance and became surrounded during a fierce firefight. Shriver reportedly stayed behind to cover the withdrawal of his men as helicopters attempted to extract the team. When rescue forces later searched the area, no trace of him could be found. His body was never recovered, and the exact circumstances of his disappearance remain unclear.

For several years, Shriver was listed as Missing in Action, and rumors circulated that he might have been captured. However, no confirmed evidence ever surfaced. In 1974, the U.S. Army officially declared Jerry Michael Shriver presumed dead. His name is now honored on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., and he remains remembered within the Special Forces community as a legendary Green Beret who disappeared in one of the war’s most mysterious missions.
