A guide on how to manufacture pad printing polymer clichés, also known as printing plates. This video uses water wash polymer plates, but the process is identical for alcohol wash plates, replacing the water with the alcohol solution.
We hope this explains a bit of the science behind the plate making process, the rasterfilm, also known as screens, and the way to achieve beautiful prints time and again.
The steps we followed are:
1) Print a high-density film using an Epson printer
2) Place baby powder on the cliché
3) Place the film image side against the cliché
4) Expose the cliché with the film on it for the recommended time
5) Place the rasterfilm (screen) against the cliché
6) Expose the cliché with the screen for the same time as step 4
7) Wash lightly for 2 minutes
8) Final exposure for 20 minutes
9) Dry at 170 degrees F for 20 mins
