eHeat Envi Heater Review and Installation Demonstration

Описание: Today I'm reviewing an Envi wall-mounted electric heater from eheat.com. Also, I'm going to briefly show you how to install this heater in a typical room with typical drywall walls. (Once you have your tools gathered, you'll probably be able to install one of these in less than the time it takes to watch this video.) We purchased this heater directly from eheat.com because we have one room in our house which feels just a bit too cold in the winter months. The rest of the house seems to be heated well enough with a central heat system using ducts and vents throughout the house. Rather than try to revisit the design of our existing system, we chose to simply supplement the heat in this one room using the Envi heater.

Within just a couple of days we confirmed that the Envi heater was a great solution to our original problem. It performs exactly as advertised. It's quiet, easy to use, non-intrusive and non-disruptive. It has a thermostat dial on top and we set it to about 3 out of 10 (according to a little scale on the dial). This seems to heat the room at night to about 4 or 5 degrees (fahrenheit) warmer than the room was without this supplemental heater. Just what we wanted it to do!

According to the manufacturer, the heater uses about 475 watts of electricity when it's on (and when the thermostat actually turns on the heating elements). My Kill-a-Watt meter tells me that it's about 535 watts. I'm not sure if my Kill-a-Watt meter is completely accurate. No matter. To me, the manufacturer's claim and my meter's reading are close enough to each other that I won't worry about the discrepancy.

In the video I state that, by my estimation, we increase our electricity consumption by about 3 or 4 kilowatt hours per day using this Envi heater. This happens when I have the thermostat set to about 3 on the Envi heater's scale of 10. Also, I don't use the Envi heater during daylight hours. I turn on the Envi heater daily at around sundown (or dinner time) and I turn the power switch off each morning at around sunrise. I've come to my figure of 3 or 4 kilowatt hours per day by recording the daily numbers on our home's net meter (we have grid-connected solar panels) and comparing the numbers and averages to the readings from the same period last year.

I realize that this is still early in the season. Within a few weeks we're going to have much colder temperatures outside. I don't yet know how this will affect the Envi heater's ability to provide the supplemental heat in the room where we use it. I'm guessing that I can keep the heater's thermostat set the same and it will simply cycle itself on for longer periods. Then again, the home's overall furnace system will also be operating more often and for longer periods. So I'll have to wait and see how lower outdoor temperatures will affect overall performance and power consumption of the supplemental heater.

In summary, as I state in the video, the Envi heater is doing just what we wanted it to do. The room is a much better place now that it's warmer. It certainly doesn't hurt that it's made in the USA. And, so far, the heater's impact on our overall use of electricity has actually been lower than I expected.
