I work 600 feet underwater in the North Sea, living in a pressurized tube for a month at a time. It’s dark, it’s cold, and it’s dangerous. But I thought I knew the risks.
Then we found the anomaly on Pylon 3.
It wasn't rust. It wasn't a structural failure. It was a growth. A massive, smooth lump fused to the steel leg of the rig. When we tried to cut a sample, the water screamed. The rig shook. And black fluid erupted from the wound—fluid that didn't just float, but moved with intent.
Now, we’re trapped in the habitat. My partner is changing. His skin is turning into black glass. The schematics for the rig show pipes pumping *down*, not up. And outside the porthole, thousands of deep-sea creatures are gathering, drawn to the pylon like moths to a flame.
We didn't drill for oil. We drilled to keep something asleep.
And we just woke it up.
