Papakōlea Beach is hands down one of my favorite spots on the Big Island. Why? It’s one of only four green sand beaches in the world! The other three are in Guam, the Galapagos Islands, and Norway.
Getting there is an adventure in itself—you can hike (about 3 miles each way), hitch a ride on a pickup truck, or go off-road in a rental vehicle if you’re feeling bold. Once you arrive, the simplicity of this place is unmatched. It’s just you, the waves, and that stunning, olive-green sand.
