Описание:
On November 4, 1963, guitarist Grant Green recorded “Nomad” at Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs, NJ, for the album Idle Moments (Blue Note).
The ensemble featured a rare mix — three chordal instruments:
Grant Green — guitar
Bobby Hutcherson — vibraphone
Duke Pearson — piano
Bob Cranshaw — bass
Al Harewood — drums
Joe Henderson — tenor saxophone
This session demanded subtlety: with guitar, piano, and vibes all capable of harmonic “comping,” the challenge was to avoid clutter.Green solved it by not comping — he soloed in single-note lines, his tone clear, almost horn-like.
In this moment, Hutcherson’s shimmering vibes fade, Green enters with lyrical precision, and Pearson gently joins beneath — a masterclass in restraint and interplay.
Release Details:
Recorded: November 4, 1963, Van Gelder Studio (NJ)
Released: June 1965 on Idle Moments (Blue Note)
Historical Note:Idle Moments is often hailed as one of Blue Note’s most elegant sessions — a fusion of cool lyricism and warm groove.“Nomad” captures that balance — tight rhythm, open air, and a guitarist who understood the power of leaving space.
