On the final day before a five-week summer break, Congress was leaving a long list of unfinished business after 18 months of bitter partisanship. Democrats cast Republicans as the obstacle; Republicans said President Barack Obama has been missing in action.
"We have many challenges facing our country and those challenges need to be addressed through strong leadership, and every time the President rewrites a law unilaterally, and declines to enforce the laws of our nation as they're written, it conveys not strength, but weakness, and it makes it harder to build the trust with the American people to get things done that really do need to get done," said House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., called the Republicans "anti-governance", adding, "And one thing we can't do is waste the time of the American people and the Congress of the United States and the cost to the taxpayer of the time that Congress is in session, doing nothing. Suing the President... It's ridiculous."
House republicans approved a plan on Wednesday to sue the President for he's carried out his signature legislation, The Affordable Care Act. Democrats have dismissed the effort as a political stunt.
