Ukraine and Russia have carried out their first prisoner exchange in nearly five months, freeing 157 prisoners of war each on February 5. The swap, brokered by the United States and the United Arab Emirates during peace talks in Abu Dhabi, saw Ukrainian captives return home while Russian soldiers were released at an undisclosed location in Belarus. Ukrainian officials say many of those freed had been held since 2022, with several captured during the battle for Mariupol.
