On June 13, 2025, Iran launched a large-scale missile barrage, codenamed "Operation True Promise 3," involving over 150 ballistic missiles and more than 100 drones. These strikes targeted key Israeli cities, including Tel Aviv and Haifa, breaching the Iron Dome defense system and causing significant damage. At least nine Israelis, including children, were killed, and over 100 were injured. The Weizmann Institute of Science was also hit, indicating a deliberate targeting of scientific infrastructure.
In response, Israel conducted airstrikes targeting Iran's oil and gas infrastructure. The Shahran oil depot and a fuel tank in western Tehran were hit, causing massive explosions and fires . These strikes were part of Israel's broader military operations against Iranian targets, including nuclear facilities and military leaders, under "Operation Rising Lion."
