Paul was livid. The "mutilators of the flesh (Phil. 3:2)" at work throughout the churches of central modern-day Turkey/Türkiye were trying to require Gentile converts to undergo circumcision as if it were salvific. What started at the Jerusalem Council in Acts 15 had become a full-blown legalistic meltdown of the gospel. Paul's Holy Spirit-inspired response is the Book of Galatians. "This was so that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law, because by the works of the law no human being will be justified (Gal. 2:16b, CSB)."
