Gig work has taken over the modern economy, from apps like Uber, Doordash and Instacart to online content creation, freelance work and companies hiring contractors over full time employees, the way we work has changed.

What was sold to us as flexibility and freedom is often a way to get around labor protections such as minimum wage, health benefits, and predictable schedules. As full time work becomes harder to find these days, more people turn to the gig economy to make ends meet, but gig work can be unstable. Pay fluctuates wildly, expectations change and when your boss is an algorithm or app, you are left unprotected, and your employer is accountable to nobody.

This is a big contributor to the rise of what can be known as Technofeudalism, where we work for platforms we hold no ownership in and play by their rules. In this video, we will explain a few different ways this has shown up as well as how gig work became prevelant in the modern economy, turning millions of people into the equivalent of digital serfs.
