Playing the geomungo, an ancient Korean stringed instrument.
This music was composed about a thousand years ago.
This music was meant to wish for health and longevity.
The geomungo is an ancient Korean instrument depicted in Goguryeo murals. It has six strings arranged in 16 frets.
The 1th string is fixed at Eb (2) and rests on the anjok (foot), symbolizing civil officials.
Only the 2th string, representing a free spirit, and the 3th string, symbolizing the king, are freely played within the frets.
However, the 4th string is placed on the fret and fixed at Ab(2), and the 5th string is placed on the foot below the fret, so it produces the same note as the 4th string, but the timbre is different, producing a clear and hearty sound. The 6th string, which symbolizes the general, produces a heavy and solemn sound of Ab(1)
