In a groundbreaking move, the United Arab Emirates has officially recognised yoga as a competitive sport — marking a new chapter for the ancient Indian discipline. The UAE’s Ministry of Sports, through the national Yoga Committee, is establishing rules, rankings, and training programmes for referees and athletes. The 6th Asian Yogasana Championship will be held in Fujairah next year, with 160 athletes from 16 nations participating. The initiative celebrates the UAE’s deep cultural connection with India and its diverse Indian community while promoting yoga as a blend of physical strength, mental focus, and global harmony.
