"Chemise" is a French word used to describe a special cloth binding, an item that very rarely survived throughout history.

I am one of the lucky few that had the opportunity to see this "chemise" up close, analyze it in detail, and reproduce it in a stunning replica that goes with the facsimile of the manuscript it belongs to.

Today I'm going to show you the unique chemise that accompanied the Psalter of Blanche of Castile through time. The manuscript is protected by this breath-taking 14th-century gold-embroidered cloth, presumably commissioned by Charles VI. The binding is one of the only three surviving embroidered medieval bindings in France, and features a gold-embroidered fleurs-de-lis pattern on blue background.
