"Wind from Another Planet" (for six baritone saxophones) is one of the larger works, inspired by the 4th movement to Schoenberg’s String Quartet No. 2. The opening line of that movement — “I feel the air from another planet” — sets the stage for the cold, constantly moving, often brutal baritone saxophone sextet. Based around the C5 key, the music explores the capabilities of alternative saxophone trills and harmonics.

"Intergalactic" is my first substantial album, showcasing an hour of original solo and chamber works for the baritone saxophone. The music is constructed via my distinct compositional methodology, practicing depth psychology via an inverted compositional workflow. Each of the works tells a different story from various parts of the universe, a true mix of beauty and an uncaring universe that simply is. I have discovered all of these pieces, bringing back little tokens of my adventures that I am able to share with the listener.

Joshua Haugen (b. 1998) is an award-winning, internationally performed composer-performer specializing in contemporary works for baritone saxophone. Haugen's music explores microtonality, extended techniques, and the outer limits of the performer’s expressive range. Haugen’s recent compositional work has focused on his status as a composer-performer, depth psychology, and sonic experimentation, creating works of profound intensity and deep humanity. Haugen also works regularly as a performer and fierce advocate for new music, recent projects including the premiere recording of Samuel Adler’s “Saxophone Quartet”. Haugen also works as a music educator, running a robust studio offering lessons in piano, saxophone, and composition.
