German Chancellor Friedrich Merz warned of the risk of a military escalation in the Middle East ahead of talks between Iran and the United States scheduled to take place in Oman on Friday.
Speaking in Doha on Thursday, Merz said fears of a new conflict had dominated discussions during his visit to the Gulf region.
“In all my conversations yesterday and today, great concern has been expressed about a further escalation in the conflict with Iran,” he said at a news conference.
