Hello everyone,
I’m Chandan Kumar Gupta, a Prime Minister's Research Fellow (PMRF) in the Department of Mathematics at IIT Patna. This video is part of the NPTEL course Introduction to Probability Theory and Statistics (noc25-ma33), led by Professor S. Dharmaraj from IIT Delhi.
As a dedicated NPTEL PMRF Teaching Assistant (TA), I’m contributing to the course by guiding learners through key concepts.
In this Week 4 session, we dive into the Basics of Probability Theory , covering topics such as :
Standard Discrete Distributions : Constant Distribution, Bernoulli Distribution, Binomial Distribution, Geometric Distribution, Negative-Binomial Distribution (Pascal Distribution or Inverse Binomial Distribution), Poisson Distribution and Discrete Uniform Distribution.
Standard Continuous Distributions : Continuous Uniform Distribution, Exponential Distribution, Gamma Distribution, Beta Distribution, Cauchy Distribution, Normal Distribution, Log-Normal Distribution, Logistic Distribution, Laplace Distribution, Weibull Distribution and Pareto Distribution.
Properties of Standard Distributions : Mean, Variance and other properties of these Distribution.
Memoryless Property of Geometric and Exponential Distributions.
Problems based on these distribution and real life applications
