From their 1972 album "Machine Head", Pictures of Home is one of my favorite Deep Purple songs and to me, has one of the most iconic Drum intros in Rock and Roll history (I wish I could do it more justice)! Richie Blackmore's guitar work throughout and solo is technically amazing (as usual), Jon Lord's keyboards/solo is off the charts and Roger Glover's bass riff is so cool, funky and incredible, especially for that era! What a combination!
It's a meaningful song that tells the story of a person who feels lost and alone, shouting out for help but only their own words return making them realize that no one is out there to help them and that they are totally on their own to deal with their feelings of loss, regret, isolation, unfriendliness in the world and the struggle to find a way out and regain the life they had as it was in their memories of home.
