Ingredients:
Dried prawns – 150 grams
Oil – 2 tbsp
Mustard seeds & urad dal – 1 tbsp
Dry red chilies – 5 to 6
Onion – 4 (chopped)
Curry leaves – a few
Tomatoes – 2 (chopped)
Salt – to taste
Chili powder – 1 tbsp
Turmeric powder – ½ tbsp
Coriander powder – ½ tbsp
Grated coconut – 5 tbsp
Method:
Fry the dried prawns:
Heat a pan and dry-fry the 150 grams of dried prawns lightly. Once done, clean them thoroughly and soak in water for a while to soften.
Tempering:
In another pan, heat 2 tablespoons of oil. Add mustard seeds and urad dal. Let them splutter.
Add chilies & onions:
Add the dry red chilies and sauté briefly. Then add a portion of the chopped onions along with curry leaves. Sauté until golden.
Tomatoes & spices:
Add the remaining onions and chopped tomatoes. Add salt to taste. Cook until the tomatoes turn soft.
Masala stage:
Add chili powder and sauté well. Then add the soaked and drained prawns. Mix and fry well.
Final spice blend:
Sprinkle turmeric powder and coriander powder. Continue sautéing until the masala coats the prawns.
Finish with coconut:
Finally, add the grated coconut. Mix well and sauté for a few more minutes until the dish is aromatic and well-cooked.
Serving Suggestion:
Serve hot with steamed rice or as a spicy side dish for any South Indian meal.
