This piece I believe feels special emphasis from the Central Valley compilation. Seen here, the five-day-per-week CCT (Central California Traction) Lodi Local trundles through Pine Street in Lodi to switch out a tank car facility. What makes this special are the US&S teardrop bells that guard the crossing. This model of crossing bell has been discontinued since the 60's, and this pair is one example of equipment on the system that dates back to the CCT's interurban days. So far, this is one of only a small handful of crossings in NorCal that I've been able to find with this rare bell.
Addendum I have since found dozens of crossings across the expanse of the state that have teardrops. I have even come to own one myself. Still, the teardrop remains a rarity as only a select few railroads continued to buy into US&S after the bell was discontinued. Many have been replaced.
