Synopsis
Set in the Tenpo era, the story follows Shinkuro, a veterinarian who has taken up residence in the Enma Row House of Naitō-Shinjuku. Though devoted to healing animals, Shinkuro is also a man of unwavering justice and a master of both swordsmanship and hand-to-hand combat. With his signature declaration, "You're worse than animals! I can't let you live!", he strikes down evil with fearless conviction alongside his colorful neighbors:
・Kichibe, the hot-tempered carpenter
・Jugo, the ex-constable turned warehouse official, and
・Mondo, former government astronomer turned ronin

About
This work is the third entry in the "Yabure" series, following "Yabure Gasa Tōshū: Akunin Gari" and "Yabure Bugyō," all starring Kinnosuke Yorozuya.

The first series featured a doctor aligned with society’s outsiders; the second, a magistrate within the system. In this instalment, the protagonist is a veterinarian, once again positioned with the common people rather than authority. Across all three, the focus remains consistent: a lone figure confronting abuses of power that ordinary citizens cannot challenge.

Unlike the earlier, more larger-than-life heroes, this veterinarian is portrayed as a grassroots leader among Edo's townspeople. He is less a mythic figure and more a relatable man shaped by the energy of the streets. Kinnosuke’s brightness, boldness, and firm sense of justice further define the character.

The story takes place in Tenpō-era Naitō-Shinjuku, a district that, even 140 years ago, was already a busy hub on the Kōshū Kaidō, serving as a waystation, a distribution point for goods entering Edo, and a bustling entertainment quarter. Its blend of youth, vitality, and rough edges mirrors the character of Shinjuku today.
