What is USB Power Delivery (PD) and why it's important!

Описание: USB Power Delivery or PD for short is a new fast charge standard that was introduced by the USB Implementers Forum. They are the creators of the USB standards. It is an industry standard that enables high speed charging with variable voltage of up to 20V by using intelligent device negotiation of up to 5A at 100 W. That means both the voltage and electric current get adjusted to match the device input requirements. Important! This only works for USB-C type connections. This is another reason why most of the electronic manufactures are now switching to USB-C type connections. This works well for smaller devices such as tablets and phones as they require usually less than 30 W. However, for laptops it's a bit more tricky as they might require more than 100 W for proper charging. For example Dell XPS 15 model is designed for a 130W power source. In addition, it is also important to check the power rating for the USB-C type cable. So that if you still want to connect your PD USB-C which has got a maximum of 100W to a laptop that requires more than 100 W, both the cable and the power source could work as best as it's possible. So, next time when you buy a power bank, USB socket or power adaptor, make sure it is a USB Power Delivery standard or PD!
